The Property Ombudsman (TPO) has been providing and impartial and independent Ombudsman service, resolving disputes between Consumers and Property Agents since 1990.
In 2020, TPO helped over 39,000 individual consumers, resolved 5,707 disputes and directed £1.9M in awards, 99% of which were received by consumers. Last year also saw TPO's membership reach over 40,000 members operating from 26,404 offices and branches across the UK.
TPO’s Codes of Practice are the largest codes approved by Trading Standards’ Consumer Codes scheme (CCAS). They are voluntarily followed by over 95% of estate and letting agent members, making TPO the primary dispute resolution service for the sales and lettings industry.
As a 'not for profit' Ombudsman, TPO is a full member of the Ombudsman Association and is also approved by the Department for Levelling up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), the National Trading Standards Estate and Letting Agency Team (NTSELAT) and the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) to operate redress and ADR schemes for estate, letting and managing agents, as well as voluntary schemes for landlords and other property professionals.
